Center of the Universe

Bank Street takes you right through the life of Wallace, with different businesses lining the street. What is now the Center of the Universe manhole cover was once the John Mullan Memorial Statue.  John Mullan was a member of the government who orchestrated the creation of the Mullan road from Fort Benton, Montana, to Fort Walla Walla in Washington. Today, the Center of the Universe is exactly what it sounds like: the Center of the Universe. Declared in 2004 by Mayor Ron Garitone, it was decided that, since it could not be disproven that Wallace was the Center of the Universe, it was therefore proven that it was the Center of the Universe, and that has stood ever since.
